Ask Your Senator to Urge Senator Lee to Withdraw his Amendment to the Amache National Historic Site Act!
This bill establishes the Amache National Historic Site in Colorado as a unit of the National Park System to preserve, protect, and interpret for the benefit of present and future generations resources associated with the incarceration of civilians of Japanese ancestry during World War II at Amache, also known as the Granada Relocation Center, and the military service of incarcerees at the Granada Relocation Center. Senator Bennet of Colorado is attempting to bring the bill to the floor for unanimous approval of the Senate. Senator Lee from Utah is blocking this as the lone objection. We need you to contact your Senator to convince Senator Lee to withdraw his objection and allow HR2497 to pass in time for the Day of Remembrance on February 19.
Call or send an email to your Senator asking them to contact Senator Lee to urge him to withdraw his amendment to the bill! Entering your information at the right will automatically provide the correct letter for you if you are a constituent of Senator Lee, or one of the other 99 senators who do not object to passing HR2497 as is. For Senator Bennet, we will send an email thanking him for his leadership. You will have the opportunity to edit your messages before sending which will give you an opportunity to explain why designating Amache as a national historic site is important to you. If you have a family connection to Amache, or any of the camps, include that information.
To call your senators' offices which will be even more effective given our short timeline. Senator Bennet hopes to bring this up for vote again today or tomorrow. To find your Senator's phone number, you can go to this page. Your message in the call is very simple, "Please ask the Senator to contact Senator Mike Lee and ask him to withdraw his amendment to HR2497, the Amache National Historic Site Act so that it can pass with unanimous consent." You can then add your own information as to why it is important to you.
