Update on NPS Website Issue

On Friday afternoon, JACL and other community partners were made aware that several National Park Service pages, including the page for the Japanese American Memorial to Patriotism During WWII, were offline and inaccessible. While looking into the issue, this page came back online though others such as the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial remained down through the weekend. On Monday, NPS confirmed that there had been a technical issue that caused the pages to go down, which has since been corrected.

We remain concerned that many other government websites have been removed intentionally due to content related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, LGBTQ+ related content, and many scientific, medical, and datasets. While many of these sites have been preserved through third party websites, JACL will continue to work to end the government's censorship of this public information.

JACL Joins 77 Organizations to Honor Fred Korematsu's Legacy

January 30, 2025 -

"On the occasion of what would have been Fred T. Korematsu’s 106th birthday, JACL joins 77 other organizations in celebrating the introduction of two bills to honor Korematsu’s legacy. Introduced this week in the House are H.R. 77, which would designate January 30th as “Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution” and H.R. 821 which seeks to posthumously award the Congressional Gold Medal to Fred Korematsu in recognition of his contributions to civil rights and his loyalty and patriotism to the Nation."

Live Fact Sheet on Federal Funding Freeze from our Partners at OCA

OCA has created this fact sheet regarding the potential impacts of the federal funds freeze and how it will affect the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. Given how quickly things were unfolding and the confusion surrounding it, we wanted to provide a clear and accessible resource to help our community stay informed. If you have questions or have been impacted, please email us at oca@ocanational.org.
